Some more tips to set up this irritating device:

  • Remove XP firewall! It totally messes up the link to the server.
  • In the “Printers” panel in XP, check that the ‘Use printer online’ option is activated.
  • The hard reset procedure described in the user manual does not work. Instead try the following:
    1. While the server is still powered up, press reset for 30sec.
    2. Unplug the power (reset still pressed).
    3. Wait for 10sec.
    4. Re-plug the power.
    5. Release reset.

Just a quick note for fools trying to install a WPS54GU2 to let them know that the Canon i450 printer is not compatible with this print server, but Epsons’s Stylus C64 is. It’s really a shame that nobody at Linksys seems to be able to provide users with a list of (in)compatible devices.

Some other quick advice to install this cool device (once installed…):

  • Always switch on the server last.
  • Keep the server wired until you make sure you can print from every PC of your network.
  • Before installing the print server utilities, install your printer’s driver.
  • When the server’s ports are configured for your printer(s), go check in Windows’ printer folder that the corresponding printer is connected to the appropriate port.
  • When testing impressions, make sure the ‘Print’ panel displays the correct printer’s location (something like ‘LK9861D4_P2′).

I wish you good luck!

PS: go check Amazon, there are really useful user reviews awaiting you.

… the road to the World Cup is clear, victory will be ours! It had been 53 years since France had last triumphed in Ireland: not quite as long as Red Sox’ losing streak yet noticeable. Ireland: 0 - France: 1, merci Titi!
